My Quest for February 2024
You have one new objective
I joined the Medium community late last month. I started reading many inspiring stories and helpful posts. After delving deep into the oceans of text, I felt confident, and a wave of motivation came over me. I wrote and published four posts last month and one yesterday, the first of February. I figured it was time to challenge myself with a quest.
The quest is intended to understand my writing habits and push my creative mind. I will write at different times of the day, in varying conditions. The quest’s reward will be in the form of self-improvement, developing good writing skills, hopefully growing my follower count and having fun.
The objective
As with any quest handed out by a game, not all quests are fun; many are timesinks, a grind, or simply a repeat of the previous one—being experienced in gaming, doing countless quests, and grinding out for rewards. I realise it won’t always be painless to write each post. But I am approaching writing as a quest. It is what makes sense to my brain at this point in my writing journey. Each quest should have an objective and a reward. For me, the aim is to write & publish one post each day of February 2024. As I have done one post yesterday and this one today, 27 posts are left until my quest is completed.
The reward
As laid out before, the reward will be notable. I am working on the foundations for all the writing I will do in the future. To understand when my creative mind is at its best and how I will perform in writing under slightly more pressure. Obtaining insights into these concepts will be valuable without a doubt.
While playing competitive games, I always tell teammates who underperform from their usual selves not to focus on the metrics. Looking at the scoreboard and seeing yourself at the bottom of the list will only worsen the performance you can achieve. However, I do love metrics, and let’s be honest, most of us do. “Numbers must go up!” Hopefully, the consistency in writing and publishing each day will positively affect my follower metric even though I do consider this a side quest, a bonus, not necessary to complete for the main quest. However, they are linked; the metrics will follow suit if the content is good.
The most important, though, is having fun. Enjoying the activity, the moment, and the feelings we get while doing it. That is the idea behind playing games, doing quests and obtaining rewards. And this will always be at the centre of my journey to becoming a better writer.
